IOWA CITY, IA – University of Iowa junior Brad Hopfinger finished the final round of the 79th Men’s Illinois State Amateur Golf Championship Thursday. The Lake Forrest, IL native carded a 72-hole total of 281 (+1) to finish the tournament in fifth place. Hopfinger’s teammate, Dusty Koth, missed the final cut by one stroke after 36 holes. The junior shot a 6-over par 148 (74-74).
Competition was held at the Bloomington Country Club in Bloomington, IL. This marks the seventh time the 6,530 yard, par 70 course has hosted the tournament.
This tournament is one of many for Iowa golfers who have kept busy this summer with amateur events around the nation. Highlighting the success is a pair of Hawkeyes, sophomore Barrett Kelpin and incoming freshman Ryan Marks, who have qualified for the 2009 U.S. Amateur Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, OK, Aug. 24-30.
