Jordan Bernstine Will Miss 2009 Football Season

Aug. 13, 2009

IOWA CITY, Iowa – – University of Iowa Football Coach Kirk Ferentz announced today that junior defensive back Jordan Bernstine will miss the 2009 season.

Jordan Bernstine sustained an ankle injury in practice that will keep him from competing in the 2009 season,” said Ferentz. “We all feel badly for Jordan — he has worked very hard and was doing well. That said, I am confident he will bounce back from this very disappointing injury.”

Bernstine (5-11, 205) was listed as a first team cornerback following spring practice. He saw action in seven games a year ago, recording 12 tackles. He had a pass interception against Michigan State. Bernstine did not use a redshirt in his first season at Iowa in 2007, recording nine tackles as a true freshman.

The Des Moines native joined the Hawkeye program after an outstanding prep career at Lincoln HS where he earned Elite first team all-state recognition as a junior and senior.

The Hawkeyes will hold their first public practice Saturday as part of “Kid’s at Kinnick Day”. Gates at Kinnick Stadium will open at 11 a.m. and practice is scheduled to begin at noon. Hawkeye players will sign autographs for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the team’s two-hour practice.

Iowa opens the 2009 season at home, Saturday, Sept. 5, hosting Northern Iowa (11 a.m., Big Ten Network). Season, mini-season, single game and discounted youth and group tickets are available.
