IOWA CITY, IA – – The 17th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team lost to Virginia Commonwealth Friday, 3-2, at Grant Field. The Hawkeyes fall to 1-4 on the season with the loss.

The Rams struck first at the 12:05 mark as Lindsay Jones scored to give VCU a 1-0 advantage. Chelsea Hill was credited with an assist. Two minutes later, freshman Sarah Drake scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season to tie the score at one. The first half would end tied 1-1.

Freshman Grace Dolfi scored her first career goal in the 49th minute, giving the Black and Gold a 2-1 lead. The Rams would answer at the 57:03 mark. Kelsey Scherrer slammed in a goal from close range to tie the game at two.

With eight minutes remaining, Scherrer struck again to give the Rams a 3-2 advantage. The VCU defense held Iowa in check the rest of the way and sealed the victory.

The Hawkeyes face Stanford Sunday at Grant Field. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. Admission is free.
