IOWA CITY, IA – – The University of Iowa field hockey team lost to Indiana Friday, 2-1, at Grant Field. The Hawkeyes fall to 3-6 overall and 1-1 in Big Ten play.
The Hoosiers struck first as Corey Brautigam scored off a deflection at the 2:57 mark. With the visitors leading 1-0, Meghan Beamesderfer scored her fifth goal off a corner to tie the score at one. Tricia Dean was credited with the assist. The half would end tied at one.
Both teams battled in the second half. With just over nine minutes remaining, Indiana’s Morgan Fleetwood scored off a pass from Shareyna Chang to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
The home team kept the pressure on in the final minutes. The Black and Gold recorded two shots in the final moments but were unable to tie the match.
The Hawkeyes will compete next against California Sunday at Grant Field. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
