IOWA CITY, IA – – The University of Iowa field hockey team lost to No. 8 Michigan State Friday, 3-0.
After both teams traded possessions for most of the first half, the Spartans struck first. Adelle Lever scored off a deflection in the 27th minute to give Michigan State a 1-0 advantage. Moments later, Floor Rijpma scored her thirteenth goal of the season to extend the Spartan lead to 2-0.
In the closing seconds of the first half Michigan State was awarded a corner. With eight seconds remaining in the period, Lever scored her second goal of the game to make the halftime score 3-0 in favor of the visitors.
Neither team added a score in the second half making the final 3-0 in favor of Michigan State. Freshman goalkeeper Kathleen McGraw tied her career high in saves with six.
Iowa continues Big Ten action Sunday against Penn State. The Hawkeyes and Nittany Lions will play at 1 p.m. at Grant Field. Admission is free. The match can be seen on the Big Ten Network as a taped-delayed broadcast Monday at 7 p.m.
