IOWA CITY, IA — All-Big Ten linebacker Leven Weiss has been named honorary captain for Saturday’s game against Indiana. The Hawkeyes face the Hoosiers in a nationally televised game on ESPN with kickoff set for 11:02 a.m., in Kinnick Stadium. There are still a few hundred tickets remaining for the contest. Iowa has sold out 39 of its last 41home games.
Weiss was a four year letterman (1976-79) from Detroit, MI. He won first-team all-Big Ten honors following the 1979 season. He had 240 career tackles (158 unassisted) and led the team in tackles (112) as a senior. He played for Iowa coaches Bob Commings and Hayden Fry.
Weiss, an attorney, has worked for Chrysler Motors for a number of years. He also served on the Big Ten’s Advisory Board for a lengthy period of time.
Weiss will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for the pre-game coin-flip. He will also be with the Hawkeyes in the locker room before and after the game and on the sidelines during the contest.
