Iowa outrebounded Marian by 14 (44-30). The Hawkeyes were led by Aaron Fuller on the glass, pulling down 12 of his game-high 15 rebounds in the second half.
Iowa had four players score in double figures: Anthony Tucker (21), Matt Gatens (14), Devan Bawinkel (12) and Eric May (10). Tucker netted 13 of his 21 in the second half, while May tallied eight of his 10 in the final 20 minutes.
Half of Iowa’s 28 field goals were made from 3-point range. Iowa was 28-60 (.467) from the field, including 14-31 from distance (14-31).
Freshman point guard dished out a game-high six assists, all in the first half.
Iowa outscored Marian, 24-6 in the paint and 16-3 in second chance points.
The Black and Gold led by five points at halftime (34-29) and opened the second half by going on a 17-2 run to lead by 20 points (51-31).
Marian made 11 triples today, making 11 of its 31 attempts from beyond the arc.
Iowa opens the regular season next Sunday, Nov. 15 against Texas-San Antonio at 5 p.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
