Dec. 2, 2009

IOWA CITY, IA — Head Coach Tom Dunn has announced the promotion of Dmitri Trouch from Assistant Coach to Associate Head Coach. Trouch, who is in his 14th year on the Iowa staff, will have increased administrative responsibilities in his new position.

Trouch came to Iowa in the fall of 1996 to replace Kurt Golder who accepted the head coach position at his alma mater, the University of Michigan. He was recruited with the help of his former teammate, Alex Kolyvanov, who is also a longtime Iowa Assistant Coach.

Trouch competed on numerous Russian National teams between 1990 and 1996. He was the National Russian horizontal bar champion in 1994 and competed in the 1994 European and World Championships. In 1995, he was forced to retire from gymnastics with a knee injury, but after surgery made an inspirational comeback. In May 1996, he helped the Russian team win the Eu¬ropean Championships. In June of that same year, Trouch won the All-Around National Championship (The Russian Cup) in Moscow; and culminated his successful career by helping the Russian team upset the highly favored Chinese team to claim the 1996 Summer Olympic Gold Medal.

Trouch is originally from Voronezh, Russia. He and his wife, Marina, now reside in Iowa City with one son, Alexander, and one daughter, Polina. Trouch became a United States citizen on July 9, 2004.
