The University of Iowa women’s tennis team is back in action this weekend, heading to Kansas to take on the Kansas State Wildcats, Feb. 13, and the Kansas Jayhawks, Feb. 14. Matches are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
THE COMPETITION
Iowa is looking to be the first team to take down the Wildcats this season. Kansas State (2-0) opened spring play last weekend, defeating Northern Iowa, 5-2, and Drake, 6-1. Kansas (1-1) is coming off of a tough loss against Notre Dame, 7-0, but opened the season with a win over Drake, 6-1.
SEASON OPENERS
The Hawkeyes opened the season with two tough matches at home against No. 6 Notre Dame (L, 6-1) and Eastern Michigan (W, 6-1). Alexis Dorr led the team with wins both days, the first an exciting third set tie-break and the second a quick 6-0, 6-0 decision. Doubles came out swinging hard to set the tone winning all three matches against Eastern Michigan, 8-3, 8-3, 8-3. The team never let up taking down the Golden Eagles, 6-1.

Iowa tennis fans will be able to follow members of the Hawkeye tennis team as they blog about the 2010 season . The Iowa student-athletes will discuss the Hawkeyes’ upcoming matches, road trips and what it’s like being a student-athlete at the University of Iowa.

The Hawkeyes return to Iowa City next weekend. Iowa welcomes Marquette Friday night (4 p.m.) and in-state foes Iowa State Sunday. The Hawkeyes and Cyclones will face off in the 11th event in this year’s annual Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
