GymHawks To Host Iowa State

This Week The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team will begin its two-meet home stand Sunday afternoon when it hosts intrastate rival, Iowa State. Competition will be held in Carver-Hawkeye Arena and is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. (CT).

Cram Carver The meet will be a blackout, so come wearing black and help cram Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Black rally towels will be given away along with “Beat State” signs, so come early and get a good seat. Additionally, the GymHawks will be signing autographs after the meet.

Scouting the Cyclones In their last meet, the No. 16 Cyclones set a season-high score of 196.225 in a losing effort to the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners. Iowa State was led by sophomore Michelle Browning who won the all-around, scoring a career-high 39.275.

Scouting the Hawkeyes Traveling to the Navy Pier meet Feb. 12, the Hawkeyes finished fourth among some of the best teams in the nation with a team score of 193.625. Houry Gebeshian led the GymHawks, placing second in the all-around with a score of 39.225. The junior also tied for first on bars with a career high of 9.850.

Head Coach Larissa Libby Entering her sixth season at Iowa, Larissa Libby has a career record of 45-51-1. She was named North Central Region Coach of the Year in 2009 for her efforts in guiding the GymHawks to a 10-5 record and a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Regionals. She was also named co-Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2008. Libby served as associate head coach in 2004 and assistant coach from 2001-03 at Iowa before being named head coach in 2005.

Next Competition The Hawkeyes will conclude their two-meet home stand Feb. 28, hosting the University of Minnesota in the Field House. Competition is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. (CT).
