PRIMM, NV — The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished in sixth at the Jackrabbit Invitational at the Primm Valley Golf Course. The Hawkeyes shot 914 (302-306-306, +50) as a team and Oral Roberts won the sixteen-team tournament, carding an 892 (+28).
Freshman Kristi Cardwell, sophomore Chelsea Harris and junior Laura Cilek all tied for 23rd place, firing a 228 (+12) each. Lauren Forbes tied for 31st having shot a 231 (+15). The junior’s lowest score of the tournament was a 74 in the first. Junior Brianna Coopman rounded out the Hawkeyes with a 240 (+24).
Individual Alison Cavanaugh led Iowa, tying for 20th with a 227 (+11). The senior shot the team’s best score of the tournament (73) in the second round. Freshman Gigi DiGrazia also competed as an individual, her tournament low was a 79 in the final round.
“Although we played consistently as a team, I was disappointed we did not win,” Head Coach Kelly Crawford said. “This was a tournament I felt like we had a chance to win. But we gave back way too many shots on the last few holes each day and that kind of cost us. That being said, we saw a lot of good things. I feel good about the tournament, the girls are hitting the ball really well.”
Iowa will return to action with a two-day Indiana Invitational April 5-6 in Bloomington, IN.
