Former Hawkeye Named To World Cup Qualifier Roster

March 22, 2010

IOWA CITY, IA – – USA Field Hockey has announced that former Hawkeye all-American Lauren Pfeiffer has been named to the 2010 World Cup Qualifier roster. Pfeiffer will join 17 other USA players at the 2010 AtaHolding Women’s World Cup Qualifier, scheduled from March 26 to April 3, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA.

“Lauren continues to represent the Hawkeyes well,” said Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum. “She has continually improved her game and that is also what it takes on the international level. We are very excited for Lauren and Team USA as they compete for a spot in the World Cup.”

Pfeiffer, a back from Mt. Laurel, NJ, was a two time all-American at Iowa. During her career, Pfeiffer earned all-Region honors three times, first team all-Big Ten honors twice and was named Big Ten Tournament MVP twice. She was selected to play in the NFHCA All-Star game as a senior after leading the Black and Gold in points (44) and goals (20). She ended her career with 53 goals to rank her ninth in Hawkeye history. She started all 83 games in her career.

Pfeiffer currently serves as a volunteer assistant coach for the Hawkeyes.

Pfeiffer and the USA team will host five other top field hockey nations on their home field. The USA will welcome traditional Pan American rivals Canada and Mexico, as well as Belgium, France and Korea. The tournament champion will head to the BDO FIH 2010 Women’s World Cup in Rosario, Argentina in September.

The USA qualified for a World Cup Qualifier with a silver medal performance at the 2009 Pan Am Cup. That team included three former Hawkeye standouts, Sarah Dawson, Pfeiffer and Barb Weinberg.
