BLOOMINGTON, IN – The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished in 13th place after the first 36 holes of the Indiana Invitational Saturday evening. The Hawkeyes (+53) shot a 317 in the first round and improved to a 312 the next. The host, Indiana, finished in first (304-291, +19).
Sophomore Chelsea Harris led Iowa, finishing day one tied for 36th. Harris carded an 80 in round one and improved the second with a 75, finishing +11.
Junior Brianna Coopman competed as an individual and improved from an 82 to a 75 the second round, tying for 47th (+13) after day one. Junior Laura Cilek shot a 158 (78-80, +14). Junior Lauren Forbes recorded a 159 (80-79, +15)
“Today’s play was frustrating,” Head Coach Kelly Crawford said. “I felt the girls had worked so hard the past few weeks and after coming off probably our most consistent tournament in Nevada, we gave up too many shots. I really, really believed that we were going to come out here and play well. I am sure they are frustrated too. Hopefully we can put it all out tomorrow and have a good round and then carry that into next week’s tournament at Ohio State.”
The Hawkeyes will finish up the final round of the Indiana Invitational tomorrow. The final round will start at 7:30 a.m. (CT).
