BLOOMINGTON, IN – – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team lost at No. 41 Indiana Saturday, 6-1. The 60th-ranked Hawkeyes fall to 10-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play with the loss at the Indiana University Varsity Tennis Courts.
“Indiana is a very good team,” said Head Coach Steve Houghton. “We needed to play close to our best to beat them and couldn’t get it done today.”
The Hawkeyes, 6-5 away from Iowa City, were unable to claim the doubles point. Garret Dunn and Nikita Zotov defeated Will Kendall and Stephen Vogl, 8-3, at the No. 3 position. At No. 1 doubles, Tommy McGeorge and Will Vasos fell to Lachlan Ferguson and Josh MacTaggart, 8-4. Santiago Gruter and Jeremy Langer then clinched the point at the No. 2 spot, downing Marc Bruche and Tom Mroziewicz, 8-5.
Iowa claimed one singles victory. Austen Kauss defeated Alexander van Gils at the No. 6 position. The junior won 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 13-11. Kauss has won six of his last eight matches.
The Black and Gold return to action Sunday at No. 13 Illinois. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
