IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team has announced that Javier Balboa González of Monterrey, Mexico has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Iowa next fall.
Javier finished second in the all-around in the 2010 Mexican National Championship. He was the 2010 national champion on vault and parallel bars and finished second on floor exercise and rings. As a junior level gymnast, he was the 2007, 2008 and 2009 national champion on floor exercise and rings. Internationally, he represented Mexico in the 2008 Pan American Games and the Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships. In 2007, he was a finalist on floor exercise, pommel horse and rings at the Junior Pan American Championships.
Javier is presently a 19-year old Mechanical Engineering student at the Instituto Technologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, and will transfer to the University of Iowa. His sister, Ana, will be a senior on the women’s gymnastics team at the University of Minnesota next fall.
