Hawkeyes Announce 2010 Soccer Schedule

IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team announced its schedule for the 2010 season Thursday. The Hawkeyes will be showcasing their talents in Iowa City in nine home games at the Iowa Soccer Complex, including the Iowa tournament, August 27th and 29th.

Head Coach Ron Rainey and the team kick off the season at home against the DePaul Blue Demons the Friday before classes resume for the fall semester at the UI. The first game of the season is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. The following week, the Hawkeyes will close the first week of classes with the Iowa Tournament. Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa will all travel to Iowa City to compete in the tournament Aug. 27-29th.

“I feel our 2010 schedule is excellent,” said Rainey. “We play a non-conference schedule that will ready us for Big Ten play. The conference will be challenging as always. We look forward to the start of the preseason in August.”

The Hawkeyes will pack their bags and hit the road for three-straight weekends in September, facing Loyola, Northern Iowa, College of Charleston, Davidson, Iowa State and Nebraska.

Hawkeye fans can enjoy a long weekend of Iowa athletics in September. Thursday, September 23rd, Minnesota challenges Iowa in the conference opener at the Iowa Soccer Comlpex. Saturday, the football team welcomes Ball State. The weekend is rounded out with soccer competition Sunday vs. Saint Louis University scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The Hawkeyes hope to get revenge over conference foes when they host Ohio State and Penn State the second weekend in October for Friday (Oct. 8th) and Sunday (Oct. 10th) games.

Iowa travels to Illinois and Northwestern before hosting Indiana Oct. 24th on Family Weekend. The Black and Gold will finish the regular season with a weekend trip to Michigan and Michigan State before playing the final regular game of the season November 6th in Iowa City against Purdue.
