IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa football center Josh Koeppel is scheduled to appear on NBC’s Today show Tuesday morning. Hosts Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira will conduct the interview sometime between 6:30-7 a.m. (CDT).
Koeppel, a 6-2, 273-pound senior from Iowa City, miraculously escaped serious injury last week after being hit by a pickup truck while riding his motor bike to class. The truck turned into Koeppel, who was driving straight through a downtown Iowa City intersection. The driver of the truck was given a citation for failure to yield the right of way.
Koeppel was knocked from the bike with enough force to flip his body over and lose a shoe in the collision. A remarkable film of the accident, taken by an Iowa City police car camera, shows Koeppel rolling over and getting right up following the impact. Koeppel will conduct the interview from Iowa City.
A product of Iowa City’s City High School, Koeppel was held out of action in Iowa’s season opener last week. He is expected to play in Saturday’s home contest against Iowa State.
