IOWA CITY, Iowa – – The University of Iowa women’s golf team did not let inclement weather impact its play at the Hawkeye Invitational Saturday at Finkbine Golf Course. The Hawkeyes finished the first round of play in first place, leading Ball State by eight strokes. The second round of the tournament was scheduled to be completed Saturday as well, but will be finished Sunday morning due to weather delays.
“I love how solid everyone played today,” said Head Coach Kelly Crawford. “What a great round. If we continue that focus tomorrow I expect good things to happen.”
Junior Chelsea Harris and sophomore Kristi Cardwell paced the Hawkeyes in the first round. Both finished with a 74 (+2). They entered the second round tied for second. Seniors Laura Cilek and Lauren Forbes were not far behind, shooting a 76 (+4) and 77 (+5), respectively. Cilek entered the second round in sixth while Forbes was tied for seventh.
Sophomore Gigi DiGrazia tied for 25th after recording an 83 (+11). Freshman Woojay Choi and Karly Grouwinkel both played as individuals in their Hawkeye debuts. Choi finished with an 84 (+12) and Grouwinkel finished with an 86 (+14). Senior Brianna Coopman also competed as an individual. She carded an 86 (+14).
Iowa will conclude play at the Hawkeye Invitational Sunday at Finkbine Golf Course. Teams will finish second round play beginning at 8:30 a.m. (CT). The third and final round will immediately follow the completion of the second round. Admission is free. Live scoring will be provided at Golfstat.com.
