BURLINGTON, Iowa – The University of Iowa men’s golf team drew plenty of attention Sunday at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa, firing a school record 268 (-20) in the first round of competition. Golfweek.com’s Lance Ringler and Sean Martin, who are at Spirit Hollow for the Challenge, took note of the impressive first round score.

Martin’s column on Golfweek.com included quotes from Chris Brant, who broke the competitive course record at Spirit Hollow with a eight-under par 64 and UI Head Men’s Golf Coach Mark Hankins.

Chris Brant said he and his Iowa teammates will break out ‘all the cliches’ to handle their 15-shot lead after the first round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge,” Martin said in his column. “Such a large lead makes it easy for a team to start thinking about victory, but 36 holes still remain at Spirit Hollow Golf Course.”

Ringler and Martin also featured Iowa in their daily “Take Five” video on Golfweek.com. After discussing the weather delay and the great popcorn at Spirit Hollow, Ringler interviewed Hankins, Brant and Brad Hopfinger about the blistering team score from Sunday.
