ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has released the 2010-11 preseason media and coaches’ poll, along with the Preseason all-Big Ten teams. The University of Iowa women’s basketball team was picked to finish second in both polls and senior guard Kachine Alexander was chosen to both Preseason all-Big Ten squads. The announcements came today at the annual Big Ten Basketball Media Day, held at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare hotel.

Both the media and coaches selected Ohio State as the preseason favorite, with the Hawkeyes coming in second. The coaches selected Michigan State in third place, while the media had a third place tie between the Spartans and Purdue.

Alexander was a unanimous Preseason all-Big Ten selection by the coaches and was also selected to the media team. Alexander was joined on the coaches’ team by Ohio State’s Jantel Lavender and Samantha Prahalis, Michigan State’s Kalisha Keane and Northwestern’s Amy Jaeschke.

The media team consisted of Alexander, Lavender, Prahalis, Jaeschke, Purdue’s Brittany Rayburn and Wisconsin’s Alyssa Karel.
