Wolverines Edge Hawkeyes In First Round

EVANSTON, Ill. – – The University of Iowa field hockey team lost to No. 11 Michigan Thursday in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament, 2-0. The match was held at Lakeside Field on the campus of Northwestern University.

Iowa (3-14), seeded seventh, and the Wolverines, seeded second, battled to no score at halftime. The Wolverines struck moments into the second half to break the scoreless tie. Bryn Bain scored off a pass from Rachael Mack at the 37:58 mark to give the Wolverines a 1-0 advantage.

In the 61st minute, the Maize and Blue pushed their lead to 2-0. Alicia Mayer scored, giving Michigan the 2-0 victory.

The Wolverines (13-6) advance to the second round to face the winner of Penn State/Indiana Friday (2:30 p.m., BTN).
