Illinois-Springfield at Iowa Iowa Player Postgame Quotes

F, Melsahn Basabe

On playing first college game
“I was just excited. I have never been in this position before. I was anxious and I was just excited to play basketball. When you get out there you just feel good and you are just playing basketball. College ball is a bigger stage but once you start balling you are just balling.”

Do you think it was a good game?
“I would definitely say that it was. In respect to the team, the competition will obviously increase, but this is how we play. We dictate how we play and we don’t play down the level. We try to come out every game and push the ball and attach. We want to play smart, aggressive and don’t back down. We want to do that every game no matter who we are playing.”

Was the pace of the game what you thought it would be?
“Today I was not even tired in the game because it was so high intensity like our practices are. We don’t stop in practice. We just have two water breaks during a three hour practice. We are always running and running. The coaches have really prepared us for today’s game.”

F, Eric May

On Hawkeyes winning today
“It was a lot of fun. We started out with a lot of energy. The starters brought out a lot of energy and then the guys off the bench continued that.”

On his game
“The flow of the offense allowed me to get a lot of my points and a few of them came from out of bound plays. It was us pushing it in transition and getting the ball moving in offense that really allowed me to get my jump shots and get to the basket.”

On getting back out on the court in front of the crowd
“We were all excited to play with each other. We have been playing against each other for the past month with the exception of the scrimmage but we were really ready to go. It was a good way to open the season.”
