Two Hawkeyes Honored

Nov. 11, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team is recognizing two member of the 2010 squad for their efforts this season. Senior Amanda Martin was named Iowa’s Sportsmanship Award recipient by the Big Ten Conference and freshman Leah DeMoss was named a Freshmen Top 100 College Players To Watch by the TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Martin competed in six games for the Hawkeyes this season. A forward from Lewis Center, Ohio, recorded three assists during her career at Iowa and was named Academic all-Big Ten after her junior season. The senior is now a candidate for the Big Ten’s Outstanding Sportsmanship award, given to one male and one female athlete at the end of the year.

“The Big Ten Sportsmanship award is a neat honor for Amanda,” Head Coach Ron Rainey said. “She has put a ton of hard work in at Iowa, and her attitude and work ethic throughout this season makes her a great honoree for the Hawks!”

DeMoss was the leading scorer for much of the season. A midfielder from St. Charles, Illinois, scored five goals and recorded three assists. Early in the season, DeMoss came off the bench to provide valuable minutes for Iowa.

“Leah had a fantastic freshmen year,” said Rainey. “We are looking forward to her development in the off season so she can take even greater strides this spring and have a tremendous impact as a sophomore.”
