IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa head women’s tennis coach Katie Dougherty announced today that Jessica Cohen will join the Hawkeyes for the 2011 spring season. Cohen, a native of Paris, France, is expected to compete for an Iowa lineup that was ranked as high as No. 18 in 2010, the highest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ranking in program history. She has a career-high ranking of 341st by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). She has also been ranked as high as No. 1,005 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) in singles and 667th in doubles. Cohen attended high school at C.N.E.D.
“We’re thrilled to have Jessica joining the team in January,” said Head Coach Katie Dougherty. “We are looking for her to make an immediate impact in our singles and doubles line-up. She has a great work ethic, is passionate about her game, and will be a great asset to our program.”
The Hawkeyes begin the spring season Jan. 15-17 at the FSU Seminole Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla., looking to build off of a successful 2009-10 campaign. Iowa posted a 17-7 (6-4 Big Ten) overall record in dual matches last year to earn a No. 4 seed at the Big Ten Championships and advance to the NCAA tournament for the first time in four years.
