IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa women’s gymnasts Houry Gebeshian and Rebecca Simbhudas have been named to the 2011 Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch list. Gebeshian and Simbhudas were two of 14 gymnasts to appear on the conference watch list.

Gebeshian, a senior from Newton, MA, had an award-winning campaign a year ago. Gebeshian was crowned Big Ten champion on beam and was also named second team all-Big Ten last season. She also earned Academic all-Big Ten honors.

Simbhudas is a senior from Markham, Ontario. Last year, Simbhudas put her name in the Hawkeye record books by becoming the first Iowa gymnast to earn All-America honors on beam after placing seventh at the NCAA Championships. Simbhudas was just the fourth Iowa gymnast to compete as an individual at the NCAA Championships. She was also a first team all-Big Ten selection.

Head coach Larissa Libby and the Hawkeyes open the 2011 season Jan. 7 in East Lansing, MI, vs. Michigan State, Michigan and Western Michigan.
