IOWA CITY – THE SETTING
The University of Iowa women’s basketball team will play its second-straight road game Monday night, as the Hawkeyes head to Des Moines to take on Drake. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Knapp Center.

Monday’s game will be televised live on Mediacom Connections. Larry Morgan and Laura Leonard will call the action.

IOWA HISTORY
Iowa has played 1,045 games, since beginning basketball in 1974. Iowa’s overall record is 639-407 (.611). That includes a 318-158 (.668) mark in regular season Big Ten contests and a 302-87 (.776) mark in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
WIN NO. 300 AT HOME
The UI women’s basketball program picked up victory No. 300 inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena with a 90-79 win over Central Michigan Nov. 21. The Hawkeyes have compiled a 301-87 (.776) record inside their home venue since it opened in 1983.
SCOUTING DRAKE
The Drake Bulldogs are 5-4 overall, including a 2-3 record this season at the Knapp Center.
In their last game, the Bulldogs dropped a tough, one-point game at home to Tennessee Tech (56-55) Dec. 11. Kristin Turk led the team with 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks. Rachael Hackbarth added 12 points.
For the season, Turk leads Drake with 19.6 points per game. She has made 23 of Drake’s 53 three-pointers on the season. Hackbarth is next at 11.9 points and a team-best 6.6 boards.
Drake is shooting .412 (205-497) from the field, including .368 (53-144) from three-point distance.
IOWA VS. DRAKE NOTES
? Drake leads the all-time series, 24-18. Iowa has won the last eight games in the series, including the last four t the Knapp Center.
? Iowa Head Coach Lisa Bluder coached 10 successful seasons (1990-2000) at Drake before joining the Hawkeyes.
? Iowa Associate Head Coach Jan Jensen and Assistant Coach Jenni Fitzgerald both played and coached at Drake. Jensen is one of only two Drake women’s basketball players to have her uniform retired. Both Jensen and Fitzgerald received the Drake Double D Award, which is the highest honor Drake bestows on its student-athletes.
? Drake and Iowa share two common non-conference opponents this season in Central Michigan and Iowa State. Drake was defeated in Ames by Iowa State (64-46) and knocked off Central Michigan (90-70) in Flagstaff, AZ at the Northern Arizona Thanksgiving Classic. Iowa defeated both Central Michigan (90-79) and Iowa State (62-40) in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
? Drake has three players from the state of Iowa, while the Hawkeyes have five. Both teams have four players from Minnesota.
? The last three meetings in the series have all been on Dec. 20.
LAST MEETING
Iowa torched the nets in the second half to defeat in-state rival Drake, 71-63, inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena Dec. 20, 2009.
The Hawkeyes scored 48 points in the second half, shooting .576 (19-33) from the field, including a blistering .625 (5-8) from distance.
The Bulldogs used an 11-3 run to close the first half and took a 30-25 lead into the locker room. Iowa used a 10-3 surge to take a 62-55 lead. Iowa’s defense held Drake in check for the rest of the game.
The Hawkeyes committed only five fouls in the game and did not send Drake to the charity stripe.
IOWA IN THE RANKINGS
The Hawkeyes are ranked No. 16 in the AP and No. 15 in the ESPN/USA Today top 25.
Four Iowa opponents are also ranked in the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls: North Carolina (10/11), Ohio State (11/10), Michigan State (14/17) and Iowa State (21/20).
Kansas State and Northwestern are receiving votes.
LATE RUN LIFTS IOWA OVER SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
Iowa used a 13-3 run in the final 6:03 to close out South Dakota State, 65-54, Saturday in Brookings.
Leading by only one point at 50-49, Kamille Wahlin made a layup at the 6:03 mark to spark the final run. Two more made baskets by Wahlin followed by a deep three from Jaime Printy gave Iowa a 59-51 advantage. Printy made a layup for a 61-51 lead. Iowa’s final four points came at the charity stripe.
Three Hawkeyes scored double figures, led by Morgan Johnson with 26 along with seven rebounds. Wahlin finished with 12 points and Printy added 11.
BLUDER CLOSING IN ON MILESTONE
Iowa Head Coach Lisa Bluder is just one win away from becoming only the second coach in school history to reach the 200-win milestone.
Bluder currently has 199 wins in her 11 years at Iowa. C. Vivian Stringer is the only other Hawkeye head coach to reach the 200-win plateau at Iowa, finishing her time in Iowa City with 269 wins.
Ohio State Head Coach Jim Foster is the only other active Big Ten coach to have reached 200 wins at his/her current school.
PRINTY ON A ROLL FROM THE LINE
After missing her first free throw attempt of the season in Iowa’s season-opener, Jaime Printy has made 31-straight free throws.
The school record for consecutive free throws made is 33, set by Lindsey Meder during the 2000-01 season.
JOHNSON FILLING UP THE STAT SHEET
Morgan Johnson has scored double figures in Iowa’s last four games, including double-doubles in two of those four contests.
Johnson tallied a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds at No. 14 North Carolina Dec. 2. She followed with 13 points and six rebounds against Kansas State and recorded another double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds against No. 15 Iowa State. Johnson had a career-high 26 points at South Dakota State, including the first 11 points of the contest.
Over the four-game stretch, Johnson averaged 17 points, nine rebounds, shot .707 (29-41) from the field and blocked 13 shots.
HAWKEYES DOMINATING THE PAINT
Iowa is racking up the points in the lane through 11 games.
The Hawkeyes have scored 20 or more paint points in all but one game (Bradley, 16) this season and have netted 30 or more points six times. Iowa has outscored its opponents, 320-281 in the paint so far and the Hawkeyes are averaging 29.1 points in the paint per game.
Iowa has recorded more paint points than its opponents in eight games this season.
PRINTY LENDS A HELPING HAND
Jaime Printy recorded a career-high nine assists in Iowa’s 22-point victory over Iowa State Dec. 9.
Printy leads the team with 52 assists and has led the team in helpers in six of Iowa’s 11 games.
AT THE CHARITY STRIPE
Iowa currently leads the Big Ten and ranks eighth in the NCAA with a .780 free throw percentage. Jaime Printy leads the league and ranks second in the NCAA at .969 (31-32).
Kachine Alexander has attempted 76 free throws, Morgan Johnson has 38, Printy has 32 and Kelly Krei has 29.
DRAINING FREEBIES WHEN IT COUNTS
The Hawkeyes are putting games out of reach from the free throw line late in the game.
The Hawkeyes are shooting .860 (37-43) from the charity stripe in the final five minutes of games this season. That includes a .800 percentage (16-20) in the final two minutes and a .870 mark (20-23) in the final minute.
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK
Iowa is one of only two teams (Penn State) to have five players ranked among the top 30 scorers in the league. All five Hawkeye starters average double figures.
Northwestern has four ranked while Ohio State and Wisconsin have three. The other six Big Ten schools have either one or two players among the top 30 scorers.
The Hawkeyes have had at least three players reach double figures in scoring in all 11 games this year. Five players scored 10 or more points against Bradley. Four players hit double digits against Northeastern, Central Michigan and Kansas State.
HAWKEYES HITTING THE BOARDS
Iowa’s rebounding numbers through its first 10 games are impressive. The Hawkeyes rank second the Big Ten in total rebounding (43.5 per game) and offensive rebounding (14.3).
Kachine Alexander and Morgan Johnson are tied for the league lead in offensive rebounds per game (3.5). Alexander’s 18 rebounds against Central Michigan, Nov. 21, are the most for any Big Ten player this season.
LEADING THE LEAGUE
Three Hawkeyes are leading the Big Ten in different statistical categories. ? Kachine Alexander and Morgan Johnson are tied for the league lead in offensive rebounds (3.5 per game).
? Jaime Printy has the best free throw percentage (.969) in the Big Ten.
