Postgame Quotes
Opening Statement…
“I feel really fortunate to get this win today. Our kids deserved it, they worked really hard. When we got down, in the first half, we came out really down and got ourselves in some foul trouble. I sensed in the locker room [at half], that if anything else it was a really great rest because little did they know they had 25 more minutes to play. We just feel really good about getting a road win in the Big Ten because it’s so hard to do. Iowa…. I love what Fran is doing with this team. I love what they’re doing. We just made one more shot than they did today.”
On Tim Hardaway Jr.
“If you’ve noticed as the year’s gone on, his shot selection has really just two or three shots. He just lets the game come to him more and that’s why you see this spike right now that we’re having with him. And, his focus, he’s become such a high IQ player for us as he’s learned about the college game.”
On Hardaway becoming a go-to guy
“Well we did there for a little bit because we would have been stupid not to. He was making everything. So, we tried to just go to him then since he got tired and they just really tightened up on him and they just wouldn’t let him get a catch so that’s when we went back to more of a dribble drive with Darius and Jordan. They’re not leaving Zack [Novak] and they’re not leaving Stu [Douglass] so then we could get into the lane a little bit and we had a couple drop offs. Then of course Jordan made a huge one, if you look at his percentages, he’s been working so hard on his foul shooting. There was no question on either one of them.”
On how important the half time break was
I think that we were upset at half time, not necessarily that we were behind but at how we had finished that last, what was it, 12 minutes or so. I think we played pretty good for about the first 8 minutes or so and then with foul trouble, we will look at the tape. Some of them might be dumb fouls and some of them might be 50-50 plays, but we got ourselves into foul trouble again. It was a recurring problem. Now, they’re quicker than us in many positions so they drove right by us and forced that. Zack is one guy that is going to lay down and take a charge. A lot of block/charges can go either way and so it went the wrong way for us today.”
Post Game Player Quotes
Iowa Forward Devyn Marble
On defending Morris and Hardaway
“We handled Morris pretty well the first half but the second half he started to get more aggressive and attack more. Hardaway got hot late too. He was in foul trouble in the first half so he wasn’t able to do much, but they both got hot the second half where it really mattered.”
On playing better this time, than in Ann Arbor
“We came out and competed a lot better. We won the rebounding battle, but I think we could have still rebounded more. If we would have got that last rebound of the game we would have gone to the free throw line, which we needed.”
On having a week off
“I don’t like sitting around for a whole week, but hopefully it will help us get some extra practice in and get ready for our next opponent.”
