INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Iowa women’s rowing team competed at the 2011 Big Ten Championships Sunday morning. The Hawkeyes placed 7th overall with 25 total points. Ohio State won its third Big Ten title with 142 points.

The Hawkeyes raced down a 2000 meter stretch of Lake Lilly at Eagle Creek Park with a 5-10 mph tail wind.

Iowa’s varsity 8 boat came in seventh with a time of 6:36.85. The Hawkeyes second varsity 8 crew also placed seventh in their race with a time of 6:47.96.

Both of Iowa’s varsity 4 boats captured seventh place finishes. The 1V4 came in with at time of 7:33.61, while the 2V4 finished with a time of 7:56.65.

Iowa had two novice 8 boats compete at the championships. The 1N8 crew posted a fifth place finish with a time of 6:57.66. The 2N8 boat placed seventh at 7:26.91.

“Clearly this was not how we wanted to end our season and it’s not indicative of the practices we have had up to the championships nor the work put in by the group,” said Head Coach Mandi Kowal. “Each boat worked tirelessly in the past two weeks to prepare for this race and unfortunately we came up short.”
