IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa junior Kristi Cardwell and senior Chelsea Harris will pair to play in the 2nd annual Hooters Women’s Collegiate Team Championship. The three-day, 54-hole stroke play event, presented by the National Golf Coaches Association, will commence Aug. 2 in Dahlonega, Ga. Cardwell and Harris will compete against 58 two-person teams (47 Division I, 6 Division II, 5 Division III) from all levels of collegiate golf at the par-72, 6,995-yard Achasta By Reynolds.
Cardwell finished in the top-15 in five of the 10 tournaments she competed in during the 2010-11 campaign, finishing a season and career-best third at the Hawkeye Invitational (74-78-75=227, +11). She fired career low 18- (69, -1), 36- (143, +3) and 54-hole (74-69-75, +8) scores at the 2010 Challenge at Onion Creek. All three marks ranked in the top three in program history in their respective categories. The Kokomo, Ind., native totaled 2,312 strokes during her sophomore season to finish tied for a team-best 77.1 average.
Harris tied Cardwell for the team-low average (77.1) after recording three top-15 finishes. She placed a season and career-best fourth at the Hawkeye Invitational after carding a 230 (74-77-79, +14). Harris, a native of Normal, Ill., posted the second best 36-hole score in school history (143) at the Badger Invitational. The score fell three strokes short of the school record (140) she set at the 2009 Challenge at Onion Creek. In addition, she holds the school record for the lowest 54-hole score (213, 2009 Challenge at Onion Creek).
The first two days of competition will begin at 7 a.m. (CT), with alternate shot on day one and best ball on day two. The aggregate score of the two players will be taken on the third day of competition, starting at 6:30 a.m. (CT).
