Former Hawkeye Takes Talents to Iceland

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Former University of Iowa women’s soccer player Keli McLaughlin recently signed with the KR- Reykjavik football club in Iceland. McLaughlin began the season with the club on Aug. 3 and signed a contract through September.

McLaughlin will compete in the Pepsi-Deildin League, Iceland’s premier league for women’s football made up of 10 teams around the region. The KR club is based in the country’s capital city of Reykjavik and is the oldest club in the nation.

The Alsip, Ill., native competed in 76 games during her career at Iowa, including 38 starts. McLaughlin scored 17 times and tallied nine assists in her four years with the Hawkeyes. She was named the team’s Most Improved Player following her freshman season and Offensive Player of the Year in 2008. McLaughlin also ranks fifth all-time in school history for assists in a single game (6 – 2008).
