Aug. 9, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa — A current and former University of Iowa diver — Veronica Rydze and Deidre Freeman — will compete in the AT&T USA Diving National Championships today through Sunday (Aug. 9-14) at the Spieker Aquatics Center at UCLA in Los Angeles.

Rydze, a rising senior for the Hawkeyes, will compete in the 1-meter springboard and the 3-meter synchronized springboard along with Freeman. Freeman, who graduated from Iowa this past May, will also dive individually in the 1-meter and 3-meter events.

Freeman enters the Championship after finishing as the runner-up in the 3-meter event at the USA Diving Nationals Zone B Prelims. She posted a score of 264.70 in the five dive competition.

The AT&T USA Diving National Championships features 125 of the nation’s best divers competing for 10 national titles. The event will also serve as the Pan American Games Trials for USA Diving and will be an opportunity for athletes to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for diving.
