Scraper Earns Big Ten Weekly Honor

Sept. 6, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa forward Kim Scraper has been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. It is Scraper’s first career weekly honor and Iowa’s first of the season.

“Kim has been impressive in all four games this season,” said head coach Tracey Griesbaum. “Her speed, combined with her skill around the goal, make her very effective.”

Scraper, a native of West Vancouver, Canada, totaled four goals and one assist to notch nine total points in Iowa’s two games over the weekend. Friday, the sophomore led Iowa to a 7-3 win over Kent State at Grant Field. Scraper tallied three goals and one assist, marking Iowa’s first hat trick since Meghan Beamesderfer recorded three scores against Michigan in the first round of the 2009 Big Ten Tournament.

The former West Vancouver Secondary standout helped Iowa shutout UMass on Sunday, 3-0. Scraper scored one goal, pushing her team-leading season total to six. She is tied for the conference lead in goals scored. Scraper scored five goals during her rookie campaign a year ago.

Iowa (3-1) returns to action this week when it travels to Providence, R.I. The Hawkeyes play the host Friars Friday at 1 p.m. and Brown Saturday at noon. Both times are Central.
