Rydze Receives Glenn McCormick Award

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — University of Iowa diving coach Bob Rydze was honored with the Glenn McCormick Award last Saturday night at the United States Aquatic Sports awards banquet . The award is presented to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the sport of diving.

Rydze, who is in his 37th year as Iowa’s diving coach, currently serves as USA Diving’s Chairman of the Board and was the team leader for the U.S. Olympic Team at the 2008 Olympic Games. He has also served on USA Diving’s Committee for Competitive Excellence and on the NCAA Diving Rules Committee.

During his stay with the Hawkeyes, Rydze has coached four Olympians and 18 All-Americans. Last season, Deidre Freeman earned All-America honors in both the one and three-meter springboard events at the NCAA Championships, while his daughter, Veronica, was an All-American in the one-meter.

The UI swimming and diving teams open its season Oct. 8 with the Black and Gold Intrasquad Meet inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center beginning at 11 a.m.
