IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa field hockey team fell to No. 10 Penn State, 3-0, Sunday at Grant Field. The loss ends the 13th-ranked Hawkeyes’ seven game win streak. Iowa is 8-2 overall and 1-1 in Big Ten play.

Both teams traded possessions back-and-forth throughout the first half, resulting in a scoreless game at the conclusion of the first 35 minutes.

Despite nearly even statistics in shots and penalty corners, a strong second half led Penn State to the conference win.

Lauren Purvis scored at the 40:12 mark off a pass from Kelsey Amy to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 advantage.

Hannah Allison pushed the Penn State lead to 2-0 with a goal off a corner in the 50th minute.

Whitney Reddig chipped in the final goal of the game with 15 seconds remaining in regulation to make the final score 3-0 in favor of the Nittany Lions.

Junior Hawkeye goalkeeper Kathleen McGraw recorded two saves and sophomore defender Karli Johansen tallied her third defensive save of the season.

Iowa (8-2, 1-1) continues conference action Saturday when it travels to Michigan. The match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CT.
