Dierckx Delivers 2 Wins

ITA Central Regional Champions

Tulsa, Okla. – University of Iowa sophomore Jonas Dierckx won his first two singles matches Saturday in the singles main draw for the men’s tennis team at the ITA Central Regional Championships at Tulsa, Okla.

Dierckx earned his fifth victory of the season with the two wins and advances to the round of 16 in the tournament. The Lommel, Belgium, native opened the day with a comeback victory against Tulsa’s Tristan Jackson 0-6, 6-3, 6-2. Dierckx then knocked off Arkansas’ Mike Nott 6-1, 6-1 in the second round.

Dierckx will face Oklahoma State’s Vlad Bondarenko in the round of 16 tomorrow.

Fellow sophomore Chase Tomlins also was in action in the singles main draw, falling to 12th seeded Matheus Pereira of Wichita State. Dierckx and Tomlins also played in the doubles main draw, but the Hawkeye duo came up short in the first round to Oklahoma’s Dane Webb and Costin Paval.

Action will begin tomorrow from the Case Tennis Center at 8 a.m.
