TULSA, Okla. — University of Iowa senior Sonja Molnar fell to Tulsa’s Samantha Vickers, 6-1, 6-2, in the singles final of the ITA Central Region Championships on Monday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. Vickers was ranked No. 98 in the ITA preseason poll. It is believed that Molnar is the first Iowa women’s tennis player to compete in the final of a regional championship.

“Sonja had a great tournament,” said head coach Katie Dougherty. “She got five quality wins and was working through sickness the entire time. Samantha played well today and Sonja couldn’t quite get it going. Sonja has had a very good fall season that we’ll look to continue with the rest of the team at Purdue.”

Molnar posted five straight-set victories en route to a 5-1 tournament record. Molnar, ranked No. 65 in the ITA preseason poll, owns an 11-2 singles record this fall.

Molnar and her Hawkeye teammates will conclude their fall season Nov. 4-6 at the Purdue Invite.
