Hawkeyes, Panthers to Stage 'RMHC Classic'

Dec. 2, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The 2011 men’s basketball game between the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Northern Iowa Panthers on Dec. 6 inside the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls will be the “RMHC Classic presented by Eastern Iowa Elite Chevy Dealers.” The goal of the game is to raise awareness, funding and donations for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa (RMHC of Eastern Iowa) and its cornerstone program, the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City.

The partnership between Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa, Eastern Iowa Elite Chevy Dealers, Panther Sports Properties and Hawkeye Sports Properties allows for a unique experience during this intense rivalry game. In addition to a former guest family of the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City receiving a game ball and Ronald McDonald making an appearance, the game will also feature the special ability for those in attendance to text-to-pledge.

During the months of November and December fans can pledge $5 to RMHC of Eastern Iowa by texting “Family” to 80088 and replying “Yes” to the return message (message and data rates may apply). Fans can also bring basic household items to the game and drop them off at one of two tables RMHC of Eastern Iowa staff and volunteers will man. Top items needed include: paper towels, toilet paper, toilet bowl cleaner, Swiffer Wet-Jet products, facial tissue, high-efficiency laundry detergent, and multi-surface product cleaners.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with such first-class groups as the men’s basketball programs from both the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Iowa and the Eastern Iowa Elite Chevy Dealers.”

“With Black Hawk County serving as a top referral area for the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City, this game is an opportunity to share our message to a community we serve frequently, through a premier event that garners statewide attention,” said John Gretter, President of the Eastern Iowa Elite Chevy Dealers.

“The Elite Chevrolet dealers are thrilled for the opportunity to partner with three outstanding institutions, The University of Iowa, The University of Northern Iowa and, of course, RMHC of Eastern Iowa. The opportunity to sponsor this game not only gives us the chance to showcase our outstanding dealers and products, but to also bring attention to one of the truly remarkable organizations in our area in RMHC of Eastern Iowa.

“They do so much good for those when they need it the most; we are humbled to be able to help them in this way,” added Gretter. “We not only hope that it is a great game, but more importantly we hope that people will acknowledge the great things that the Ronald McDonald House does and find a way to help support them.
