Tuchscherer Earns Big Ten Honor

Dec. 13, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa sophomore Abbey Tuchscherer was named Big Ten Co-Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. It is her first career honor.

Tuchscherer earned the accolade after recording first place finishes in the 100 (54.77) and 200 fly (2:01.17) on Dec. 9 in a dual meet against Iowa State. Her time in the 200 fly marked a collegiate best and broke a 21-year old pool record (2:01.31) at Iowa State’s Beyer Hall Pool. Her time also ranks second overall in school history.

The Oshkosh, Wis., native’s time of 54.77 in the 100 fly also marked a collegiate best time and ranks second overall in school history.

Tuchscherer is the second Hawkeye swimmer to garner the Swimmer of the Week honor this season. Freshman Becky Stoughton received the accolade on Nov. 8, 2011.

The Hawkeyes return to action Jan. 6 when they face Arizona, New Mexico and Oregon State during their winter training trip to Tucson, Ariz. The meet is set to begin at 2 p.m. (CT).
