IOWA CITY, Iowa — Former University of Iowa track and field standout Shane Maier was the top American finisher in 105+ kilo weightlifting at the 2012 Pan American Championships in Antigua, Guatemala.
Maier totaled 377 kg (829 pounds) in the Pan American Championships, snatching 165 kg (363 pounds) and jerking a personal record 212 kg (466 pounds). Maier completed five of six attempts and placed fourth overall in total weight lifted.
Maier lettered at Iowa from 2004-08. He won the 2007 Big Ten indoor shot put title and ranks No. 3 on Iowa’s all-time top 10 performers list.
