Aug. 15, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa volleyball team will host its annual Black and Gold Scrimmage on Saturday at 7 p.m. on Mediacom Court in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Admission to the event, in which fans can get their first look at the 2012 team, is free.

Fans are asked to enter through the North and West entrances of Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Posters and schedule cards will be available for fans to pick up at the entrances.

A live blog of the action will be available. Visit the Iowa volleyball page at hawkeyesports.com for links to the live blog.

The Hawkeyes, led by fifth-year head coach Sharon Dingman, return 10 letterwinners and four starters from a year ago, including junior setter Nikki Dailey, junior libero Bethany Yeager and sophomore Alex Lovell. In 2011, Dailey played every set for the Hawkeyes, while Yeager played in all but one. Lovell, an outside hitter, led the team in kills and became Iowa’s first freshman since 2005 to surpass 300 kills in a single season, recording 312.

Iowa opens the regular season Aug. 24-25 with the annual Hawkeye Challenge presented by Comfort Suites. The Hawkeyes open the tournament hosting Chicago State on Friday, Aug. 24 at noon inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
