Rowing Walk-On Information Meetings Scheduled

Aug. 17, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s rowing team will hold walk-on informational meetings at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC). Dates for the informational meetings are Aug. 19 at noon or Aug. 20 at 5:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in room E141 at the CRWC.

The UI women’s rowing novice roster is comprised mostly of student-athletes with no previous experience in the sport of rowing. Successful novice rowers will have the chance to compete in Division I athletics in the Big Ten Conference, with all of the opportunities of any other athlete at the University of Iowa.

Nearly half of Team USA’s Varsity 8 squad that won a gold medal in the London Olympics started their careers as novice rowers in college.

“The novice program gives college students a chance to compete in Division I athletics at an institution with tremendous support” head coach Steve Pritzker said. “We are looking for athletic students that have a competitive drive and want to enhance their collegiate experience. Rowing is the ultimate team sport and we want students who want to be part of a tremendous and memorable experience.”
