Busy Weekend for Iowa Spirit Squads

Aug. 27, 2012

Iowa City, Iowa — Even without a football game this weekend the University of Iowa spirit squads kept busy entertaining Hawkeye fans around eastern Iowa.

The cheerleaders, dance team and Herky could be seen at last weekend’s Hawkeye Challenge volleyball tournament cheering the team on to victory, while helping with promotions, time-outs and t-shirts.

The squads also appeared at HyVee in Cedar Rapids, Weber Elementary in Iowa City and Iowa basketball’s Chris Street golf outing. The HyVee event was arranged as a meet and greet with the ISS for a customer appreciation day.

Weber Welcome Fair had the spirit squad stop by to entertain and play with the kids for the start of this new school year. This gave the kids the opportunity to get to see the Iowa spirit squads up close, take pictures, play catch with them or bounce on a bouncy house with them.

The spirit squad performed the fight song, as well as a few stunts, back tucks and pyramids for the crowd that gathered. Team captain Oz Agbese also volunteered at the dunk tank in between the teachers and administrators from Weber.

The Iowa dance team helped out at Iowa basketball’s Chris Street Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday at Finkbine Golf Course. They provided some black and gold spirit to those participating in the golf outing by taking pictures and mingling with the golfers.
