Hawkeyes Ranked 25th

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s soccer team is ranked 25th in the latest Soccer America poll, as the Hawkeyes (9-0-0) have tied their mark for the best start in program history.

The Hawkeyes, who are one of six unbeaten and untied teams remaining in the country, are one of three teams making their debut in the poll. Iowa has been first or tied for first in the Big Ten standings each week this season.

Iowa finished nonconference play with a perfect 9-0-0 record for the second consecutive season, and have won their past 19 consecutive nonconference matches, outscoring their opponents 71-9 in that stretch. Iowa has outscored its opponents 30-3 this season.

While Iowa ranks within the top-25 as a team, they also rank within the top-25 in numerous NCAA statistical categories. The Hawkeyes rank fifth in scoring offense, ninth in save percentage, 12th in goals against average, and 25th in shutout percentage. Iowa is also tied for first in win-loss-tied percentage.

Hawkeye sophomore Cloe Lacasse, who has tallied 28 points off 11 goals and six assists, also ranks near the top in NCAA offensive statistics. Lacasse is tied for second in points per game, second in total goals, second in total points, second in game-winning goals and fourth in goals per game.

Iowa is also ranked 33rd by TopDrawerSoccer.com. The Hawkeyes improved one spot in the NSCAA/Continental Tire ranking, taking the No. 5 spot in the Great Lakes regional poll.

The Hawkeyes return to the pitch on Sunday, beginning Big Ten play at Illinois. The Fighting Illini and Hawkeyes play at 2 p.m. (CT) at the Illinois Soccer and Track Field. The contest will be televised live by BTN. Iowa stayed undefeated through 10 games last season, after drawing with No. 23 Illinois, 2-2, through two overtime periods in Iowa City.
