Thursday Chat With the UI Football Coordinators

Sept. 20, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Protection will be key for the University of Iowa offense Saturday as it faces a blitz-happy Central Michigan team inside Kinnick Stadium.

The Hawkeye offense didn’t allow a sack–and gained 429 yards–during a 27-16 win against Northern Iowa on Sept. 15. It marked the third straight time Iowa scored on its opening drive.

“It’s always important offensively to try to set the tone, and that’s an area we’ve done pretty well,” UI offensive coordinator Greg Davis said. “Of those three weeks, we only got one touchdown, and we would like to be finishing with touchdowns down there.”

Davis and UI defensive coordinator Phil Parker made their weekly visit with hawkeyesports.com Thursday following practice inside Kinnick Stadium.

For the third week in a row, the Hawkeyes have won the turnover battle.

“Our guys are being aggressive and having an opportunity to make plays,” Parker said. “They are focusing on being in the right spots.”
