BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — University of Iowa junior Aubrey Coleman scored her first game-winning goal of the season Friday at Indiana, giving the 11th-ranked Hawkeyes a 2-1 overtime victory over the Hoosiers. The Hawkeyes (9-2) extended their win streak to seven games and remained perfect during Big Ten play (3-0).

“We made it hard on ourselves today,” said head coach Tracey Griesbaum. “We gave up a soft goal early, and it allowed Indiana to play differently. It forced us to change our game plan a little bit. We were expecting everything, and Indiana threw some things at us, but I’ll take 3-0 in the Big Ten. It’s going to give us momentum going into Sunday’s game at Louisville.”

The Hawkeyes needed a come-from-behind effort for the second-straight game after falling behind early, 1-0. Indiana scored after Morgan Fleetwood found the back of the goal courtesy of a Mariella Grote assist at the 3:27 mark.

The game was delayed at the 15:51 mark of the first half due to lightning in the Bloomington area. Neither team scored when play was resumed, keeping the score in Indiana’s favor at the intermission.

Junior Marike Stribos got Iowa on the board five minutes into the second half, scoring directly off a penalty corner. Fellow junior Niki Schultheis assisted on the play, tying her for the team-lead with seven assists. Stribos’ fourth goal of the season tied her for the team-lead in points with 12.

Both teams were scoreless the rest of the regulation, sending the game into overtime. Iowa dominated the overtime period, outshooting the Hoosiers 7-2.

Coleman secured the Hawkeye victory in the 83rd minute. The Mickleton, N.J., native dribbled past an Indiana defender before sending a shot into the right side of the goal. It was the second-game winning goal of Coleman’s career, and the fifth score of her junior campaign.

“We didn’t want to wait that long to finish the game, but Aubrey had really good skill and presence of mind to finish,” said Griesbaum. “That was really positive.”

The Hawkeyes were once again stellar on defense, as they have only allowed four goals during their seven game win streak. Senior Kathleen McGraw picked up her ninth win of the season, making three saves.

For the game, Iowa outshot Indiana, 32-8, and held a 15-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Iowa concludes its two-game weekend road trip at Louisville on Sunday. The Hawkeyes and the Cardinals are scheduled to begin play at Trager Stadium at noon (CT).
