Madison, Wis. — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team competed at the Big Ten Singles/Doubles tournament on Saturday. Day two action saw the Hawkeyes competing in singles play with Jonas Dierckx and Michael Swank both going 2-0 in the singles back draw, advancing to the quarterfinals.
After defeating Alex Jesse of Illinois by default in his first match, Dierckx took down Elliott Yee of Indiana 6-0, 6-3. Swank meanwhile defeated Chris Young of Penn State 7-5, 1-6, (10-8) in his first match and then beat Arthur Dobradin of Purdue 6-3, 7-5 to advance.
Dominic Patrick and Garret Dunn were also able to pick up victories in the singles back draw. Patrick defeated John Patrick Mullane of Michigan State 6-0, 6-3 while Dunn defeated Harry Jaden of Michigan State 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). Both Patrick and Dunn fell in their second matches.
Matt Hagan picked up the lone Hawkeye victory in the singles main draw defeating Dennis Bogatov of Michigan State 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Hagan wound up falling in his second round match to Raleigh Smith of Northwestern 6-3, 6-1.
Additionally, Joey White, Andres Estenssoro, and Chase Tomlins fell in singles play.
Day three action continues at the Big Ten Singles/Doubles tournament on Sunday.
