Barnett, Johansen Earn B1G All-Tournament Honors

Nov. 4, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Senior Jessica Barnett and junior Karli Johansen were selected to the 2012 All-Big Ten Tournament team at the 2012 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament, hosted by Iowa at Grant Field. It is Barnett’s third straight All-Big Ten Tournament team selection, while Johansen earned the honor for a second consecutive season.

“The two games in the tournament JB and Karli really stepped up and helped us on the attack and on defense,” said UI head coach Tracey Griesbaum. “They’re integral on attacking corners and penalty corners. We’re really proud of them, and it is well-deserved.”

The Hawkeyes went 1-1 at the Big Ten Tournament. Iowa opened play Nov.1, posting a 2-1 overtime win over fifth-seeded Michigan State. The Hawkeyes were eliminated on Nov. 2, falling to top seed Penn State, 3-2.

Barnett registered a goal and two assists at the Big Ten Tournament. The North Vancouver, Canada, native collected both of her helpers against Michigan State, and scored the Hawkeyes’ second goal against Penn State. Barnett ranks second on the team in points (21) and goals (9) this season. Barnett was also recognized by the Big Ten on Nov. 1, earning a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection.

Johansen anchored an Iowa defense that allowed 15 shots and three goals during its two Big Ten Tournament games. The North Vancouver, Canada, native has started all 15 games she has appeared in for the Hawkeyes this season.

The Hawkeyes will find out their NCAA Tournament fate on Tuesday evening when the brackets are announced.
