Dec. 12, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Two University of Iowa women’s gymnasts — Emma Stevenson and Emma Willis — appear on the 2013 Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch List, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Stevenson, a senior from Winfield, Ill., competed in all 13 meets in 2012 and set career highs on three events. Stevenson marked a career best 9.875 on vault three times, 9.90 on bars against Minnesota and 9.90 on the floor exercise against Penn State. Stevenson was named to the 2012 Big Ten All-Championship Team for her 9.875 floor exercise performance. She is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Willis, a sophomore from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week (Jan. 9, 2012) after leading the Hawkeyes with top-10 finishes on vault, floor and all-around at the Cancun Classic in her college debut last year. She competed in every meet, appearing in the all-around on 12 occasions. Willis tied for 15th in the all-around at the Big Ten Championships, posting a career high 39.025. Before joining the GymHawks, Willis competed as an international elite gymnast, representing Canada at the 2010 World Championships and 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The GymHawks open their 2013 season on Jan. 11, hosting Ball State at 7 p.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
