Hawkeyes Head to UCF Invite

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women’s tennis team opens the 2013 season at the UCF Invitational on Jan. 19-21. Iowa will face No. 38 Florida State, Furman and Central Florida at the UCF Tennis Complex on the campus of Central Florida.

THE LINEUP
The Hawkeye lineup posted a 41-31 singles record and a 19-19 doubles mark during the fall season. Freshman Annette Dohanics led all Hawkeyes with an 8-2 singles record. She also teamed with Christina Harazin, Ellen Silver and Katie Zordani to post a combined 7-3 doubles mark.

FORMAT OF PLAY AT UCF INVITE
Each team will play three rounds of singles and three rounds of doubles. Iowa’s schedule is as follows:
Saturday, Jan. 19
Doubles vs. No. 38 Florida State at 9 a.m. (CT).
Singles vs. Central Florida
Sunday, Jan. 20
Doubles vs. Central Florida at 9 a.m. (CT)
Singles vs. Furman
Monday, Jan. 21
Doubles vs. Furman at 8 a.m. (CT)
Singles vs. No. 38 Florida State

THE COMPETITION
UCF finished the fall season with a 45-29 singles record and a 17-15 doubles mark. Florida State enters the spring ranked No. 38 in the nation, with Daneika Borthwick (No. 35), Mia Vriens (No. 48), Francesca Segarelli (No. 73) and Amy Sargeant (No. 100) all ranked in singles. Furman is led by Lauren Kline, the 68th ranked player in the country.

UP NEXT
The Hawkeyes host Iowa State in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. The Hawkeyes and Cyclones will meet at 4 p.m. (CT) at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
