IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa redshirt sophomore Joelle Christy has been named the Big Ten Co-Diver of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Christy earned the accolade after winning the 1 and 3-meter springboard events in Iowa’s 192-106 dual victory over Illinois on Jan. 19. The Springfield, Ill., native posted a collegiate best score of 313.35 points in the 1-meter and claimed the 3-meter with a 322.20 point total. Both scores are NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks.
Christy shares the Big Ten Diver of the Week honor with Ohio State’s Cheyenne Cousineau.
The accolade is the second of Christy’s career, as she earned her first honor on Dec. 11, 2012, after winning both diving events in the dual victory against Iowa State.
The Hawkeyes (6-1) return to action Saturday, hosting Northwestern at 11 a.m. (CT) at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Pool.
